Summary Collection inspired by the original space babe in the movie Barberella. I was interested in the potential and applicable uses of advanced textiles in fashion. The materials used in this collection consisted of a mixture of biomimicry fabric and thermal dynamic textiles which were sourced from Material Connextion and MIT. History Throughout the 1960’s, fashion used alternative, experimental materials such as aluminum used in spacesuits. American designers also explored the appeal of the space age by creating more utilitarian looks enhanced by metallic fabrics. Materials available today have redifined traditional production methods. The opportunities from new materials promises to forever disrupt the historical narrative of fashion evolution. Heels Heels were inspired by the “Flex-Foot” a custom-built,high-performance carbon fiber foot designed primarily for elite amputee athletes around the World. |
